Middle and Senior School Digital Learning Programme

All Middle and Senior School students (including new students) manage their own laptop as a part of the Digital Learning Programme. Students register their laptop as their 'primary' device. All students should have their laptop ready for the first day of school. These students can also register a 'secondary' device, but this is limited to a smartphone or tablet. Senior students can register multiple devices, but a laptop should always be the ‘primary’ device.

Students are welcome to visit the ICTS Helpdesk for support. If a problem is identified with the laptop, the student will be advised of the next steps.

    School-Ready Configuration

Every MacBook is pre-configured and delivered new. Upon first startup, the student completes a brief setup, which includes confirming the device's management by Kristin School and logging in. This process automatically pushes essential educational applications, settings and security measures to ensure the device is ready for immediate use in the classroom.

    Investigations

All devices are registered to the Kristin wireless network. This allows us to continually monitor and filter inappropriate material and assist with diagnosis if a device develops a software issue. If a student is thought to hold inappropriate material either on their device or external drives/media, an investigation will occur, led by the student's Dean. If the device is found to be transmitting malicious traffic e.g. Malware or Viruses that could affect the school's networks, the device will be removed from the Kristin wireless network whilst ICTS conducts investigations, and the student (with support) will be required to remedy the situation before reconnection.
Kristin School reserves the right to request access to any device for investigative purposes only. Failure to surrender the device for inspection will be escalated to the appropriate disciplinary procedures. If an investigation is deemed necessary then the device in question will be removed from the network until a resolution has been reached.

    Antivirus/Malware Solutions

It is compulsory for our laptop students to have Antivirus/Malware software installed prior to joining our network. If a laptop at registration does not have this software installed, ICTS will assist with installing one at that time. The number one problem at our helpdesk is Malware affecting student devices. Having antivirus/Malware software installed, greatly decreases support time. Please

    Attending a Device Registration Workshop

New students are encouraged to attend a Device Registration Workshop before or during the summer holidays. These workshops enable parents and students the opportunity to visit ICTS on campus and have their main device set up in advance of the start of term. During the rest of the year, students can visit ICT in the library and be quickly registered.

    Software Installation

Student self-installation of the curriculum software occurs once registered to our network. The list of available software to install is found on Canvas (the Student Learning System). ICT Services can assist with setting up printing, Google and MS Office 365 at registration.

Can I purchase a second MacBook for myself/my business whilst I'm ordering one for my child?

The purchase portal dedicated to Kristin School students is specifically configured for devices that must be enrolled in the school's Mobile Device Management (MDM) system. You cannot purchase a second, personal device through this dedicated portal.

However, our partner, Cyclone, offers general educational pricing on technology that is not enrolled in Kristin's management system.

To order a personal device for yourself or your business, you can place a second order through their separate Universal Education Portal:

Is the MacBook insured?

Yes, AppleCare is included with the MacBook purchase!

AppleCare+: An optional two-year extended warranty product available during the purchasing process. AppleCare+ provides coverage for accidental damage incidents for a small service fee.

Personal Contents Insurance: We also recommend checking with your current home or contents insurer. Please note that many policies require you to specifically list or 'specify' high-value items like iPads for them to be fully covered against accidental damage or loss. This is worth checking.
